The COVID-19 vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective and has been cleared by the health authorities. While this is so, there are some groups of people for whom the vaccine is not advisable.

Who should not take the vaccine?

  • People below the age of 18 years.
  • Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
  • Those who have had an anaphylactic/allergic reaction to a previous dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Those who have had an immediate/delayed onset of anaphylactic/allergic reaction to the vaccine or injectable therapies, pharmaceutical products, or food items should consult a physician before taking the vaccine.
  • Those who show active symptoms of COVID-19 can take the vaccine 4-8 weeks after recovery.
  • Those who have had SARS-CoV2 infection and were given SARS-CoV2 monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma treatment must defer taking the vaccine to 4-8 weeks after recovery.
  • Physician consultation is required before taking Covishield if one has Thrombocytopenia or is on blood thinner medications.
  • Those undergoing cancer treatment or taking anti-mitotic drugs or high-dose steroids or having autoimmune diseases should take vaccine only after consulting with their treating doctor.
