In today’s world with the latest technology and rapid advancements in new medical treatments, the labor pain that every mother faces could be reduced and the process of childbirth could be made a pleasurable condition by means of labor epidural analgesia (Painless labor).

Because of what women hear about childbirth or have experienced themselves previously, many of them develop a fear of giving birth. How is Epidural Analgesia Performed?

Epidural anesthesia is given by injecting medication into the epidural space (space in the spine which lies above the superficial most covering of the spinal cord). This procedure is done under aseptic conditions on the lower back.The epidural catheter remains in place until the delivery process is over.

Preoperative Preparation

Once the decision to go ahead with the surgery is made, our team of experts at Zoi explain you the necessary precautionary steps. Since labor is a natural process, the patient is allowed to walk and eat normally. No specific preoperative preparations are needed.

Procedure Duration & Pain Management

Follow up & Full Recovery

The patient is shifted out from the Labour room after the delivery into the observation room where she is monitored for 4 hours. Later on sent to her private room along with the baby. She is mobile and is allowed to have normal food.

A dip in the mother’s blood pressure can cause dizziness and headache which are easily taken care by medication. Few women may have numbness in legs for few hours after delivery and may need help while walking.

A 45 minute surgery to make sure you have a pain less labour. Pain control measures are started immediately and gradual rehabilitation towards recovery is supervised by the team to ensure that patient is discharged in a stable condition by the end of the day.

Generally one may experience nausea, lightheadedness, pain around the incisions, abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, gassy feeling etc.

Since labour is a natural process mother can get back to work as soon as she is comfortable, may be in 2 days. But a newborn baby deserves uninterrupted  love and warmth from the mother to cope with the insecure feeling in the new world for which we advice mothers not to work for at least 6 months.
